14. Image and GPS Data (Collection, Use & Retention)

Image Data
When you upload or capture images of insects in the DetectFly mobile application, these images are stored securely and used exclusively for:

  • improving and training our AI recognition models, and
  • enhancing application performance and accuracy.

Uploaded images will not be publicly available and will not be shared with other users.

GPS Data
When submitting an image, the application may collect the device’s GPS location to:

  • improve identification accuracy based on geographic and seasonal factors, and
  • provide more relevant fishing and entomological recommendations.

GPS data will not be shared with other users and will be stored securely.

Both image and GPS data are processed in compliance with the GDPR, under Art. 6(1)(a) (consent) and Art. 6(1)(f) (legitimate interest in improving services).

Data Retention After Profile Deletion
Upon deletion of a user profile, any associated images and GPS data will be retained for a maximum of 30 days for backup and system integrity purposes. After this period, the data will be permanently deleted or anonymized so that it can no longer be linked to the user. This process ensures compliance with GDPR requirements regarding data minimization and storage limitation.

Both image and GPS data are processed in compliance with the GDPR, under Art. 6(1)(a) (consent) and Art. 6(1)(f) (legitimate interest in improving services).


Account Deletion

Users can permanently delete their account at any time. To delete your account:

  1. Open the app.
  2. Go to Profile.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Select Delete Account and follow the prompts.

Once deleted, all personal data associated with your account will be permanently removed except for data we are required to retain for legal, security, or operational purposes as described in this Privacy Policy.
